Knee Condition Guide

Runner's Knee

Overuse-related knee pain that recurs at the front or outside of the knee after running.

Understanding Runner's Knee

Runner's knee can result from a combination of running distance, pace, gait pattern, and weakness in the hip and thigh muscles. The condition may include patellofemoral pain or iliotibial band pain depending on where symptoms occur.

Treatment Direction

Running Load Assessment

Recent changes in training volume, footwear, running surface, and pace are reviewed.

Pain Control

Physical therapy, medication, or injection treatment may be considered when inflammation is significant.

Return-to-Running Plan

Strength and running volume are increased gradually to reduce recurrence.

Notice

A treatment plan is not determined by the condition name alone. Examination findings, movement patterns, training load, and daily limitations are considered together.

Do not put off persistent pain. Have it checked.
