Plantar Fasciitis in Runners

Sharp inner heel pain with the first steps in the morning or after sitting, often returning after a run.

Understanding Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia can become painful at its heel attachment when it does not adapt to repeated weight bearing and running impact. Calf tightness, foot strength, footwear, and rapid mileage increases may contribute.

Treatment Direction

Adjust Impact Load

Reduce running on painful days and use cushioned footwear and lower-impact exercise.

Differentiate Heel Pain

We distinguish plantar fascia pain from nerve, fat-pad, or bone-related causes.

Rehabilitate Fascia and Calf

Progress plantar fascia and calf stretching together with foot and calf strengthening.

Return-to-Running Criteria

First-step pain is reduced and walking is comfortable
Single-leg heel raises and light hops are possible
Short flat runs do not worsen next-morning pain

When to Seek Evaluation Promptly

Other causes need evaluation if the heel is swollen or bruised, weight bearing is difficult, or burning and numbness are present.

Do not put off persistent pain. Have it checked.
